ATTENDING:   Kevin Murray, Chairman; Ed Goltz, Vice-Chairman; Desra Keenan, Secretary;                                      Steve  Zimmerman; Jon Sell; Jackie Tallon, Township Manager; and, Lois Reitnour,               Administrative Assistant


IN ATTENDANCE:  Scout Daniel Makela and Mr. Makela, 1156 Pin Oak Drive


Meeting was brought to order by the Chairman at 7:05 PM.





DCNR Grant for Dog Park

Board was advised that Ms. Tackett is contacting the Landscaping Engineer who developed the dog park to obtain his  Architect seal on the plan and also see if he would sit in on the conference call to the DCNR or if Ms. Tackett would qualify as the Design Consultant on the plan required by the DCNR.  Ms. Tallon advised that following Ms. Tackett’s conversation with the Landscaping Engineer, we would have correct information to present to the DCNR on the conference call. 


Mr. Sell inquired if there was any response from the Goschenhoppens regarding the addition of a pedestrian gate.  Ms. Tallon informed that a response letter has not yet been sent.


PECO Green Region Open Space Grant

No new information has been received.


On Your Park, Get Set, Go - Contest

Kevin attended the May 3rd activity idea meeting.  Ideas were not provided by presented by the participating municipalities.  Kevin presented the Upper Frederick Township Parks Board idea of a nature walk/movie night.  Idea was acceptable to the committee.  Saturday, July 9, 2016, was date proposed.  Steve did some research on what costs might be in order to do a movie night.  Two options were presented:  1)  Rental of projector, audio equipment, screen and nature movie (or second run movie); versus, 2)  Purchasing a package from a company that provides the service with new releases.  Options were discussed and how to push the program.  Desra will check with Boyertown Township to see how they run their movie nights.  Board vote was to go with the nature walk and movie night as contest kick off.  Additional information to be presented at next meeting for costs.  Kevin will attend the June 9, 2016 Board of Supervisors meeting to obtain approval for the movie night activity.


Contest requirements were reviewed.  Ms. Tallon will contact Frederick Living provide information on the contest to see if there would be any interest from residents in participation.  Kevin will make a sign to display at the June 4, 2016, Flea Market and Craft Sale informing about the contest.  Flyers will be available.  Kevin will place information on Parks Board Facebook page.







Eagle Scout Project

Kevin introduced Scout Daniel Makela from Troop 73.  Scout Makela contacted Kevin inquiring about a possible Eagle Scout Project through the Parks and Recreation Board.  Kevin informed Scout Makela of the nature kiosks in Wayland Park that need repair or replacement.  Scout Makela visited Wayland Park to check out the kiosks.  Scout Makela and his father attended the Parks Board meeting to obtain additional information regarding the project.  Project was discussed.  Scout Makela stated his interest and that he would discuss the project with his Eagle Scout Project Coordinator and get back to the Board.  Scout Makela and his father thanked the Board and exited the meeting.


Flea Market and Craft Sale – June 4, 2016 – 7:30 to 12:00

Flea Market Activity List was reviewed and responsibilities designated.  Tent set up and space markings are scheduled for Friday, June 3rd at 6:00 pm.  Parks Board is requesting the use of 8 township tables: 6 for books and 2 for refreshments.  Desra sent out e-mail’s to local publications and local radio stations advertising the Flea Market.  Fax was sent to Upper Perk Shopper’s Guide.


FOOD:  Coffee, Creamer, Hot Dogs (Township has in freezer), Rolls (5 dozen), Soft Pretzels,                           Chips, Soda (regular and diet), Water (use leftover from stomp), Condiments, Ice, Granola       Bars (left from the stomp)

PAPER:  Cups, Stirers, Napkins, 2 Coolers

MONEY for CHANGE:  $300 (100 - $1; $5 bills and 3 rolls of quarters)


Kevin discussed the purchase of a gas grill for the Parks Board to keep at the township for Community Day.  This would alleviate the use of hauling personal grills.


Kevin will check Fire Marshall to make sure that the Flea Market on June 4th is on with the Fire Police schedule of events.


Community Day – September 24, 2016

Kevin informed that Ms. Paula Carol, St. Luke’s Lutheran, contacted him inquiring what activities the Township will be having and color of wrist bands at Community Day.  Kevin will respond back with information.  Shred One Truck, Slapshot, What Knott Farm, Face Painter, French Fry vendor, Sassafras the Clown, and Funnel Cake vendor have been booked.


Sponsorship and participation letters will be sent the first week of June.  Chili Cook-Off was discussed. 


Research on child identification programs available.  Masons no longer due the CHIP program.


Kevin will check on DJ, TNA Sound, to see if they would be interested on doing Community Day.  Bands from last year, Mud Puppy and Hot Beer, will be asked to again perform. 




The next Parks Board meeting will be held on June 21, 2016 at 7:00 PM. 

The June 9, 2016 Board of Supervisors Meeting will be attended by Kevin with Steve as backup.

Memorial Day Roll of Honor dedication – May 30th – 10:00 AM.




Kevin motioned and Ed seconded to adjourn the meeting at 8:40 pm.   Motion was approved by all.
