Meeting was brought to order by the Chairman at 7:00 PM.
Dog Park Construction
Kevin informed that a meeting was held with the Architectural Engineering on November 2, 2016. Plan was updated to include the additional gate, concrete pad and parking area. Plan is ready for submission to DCNR for approval. Bidding will be going out for the fencing and installation.
Eagle Scout Projects -
- Matthew Souder – Benches at Wayland Park – Kevin advised that he had spoken to Scout Souder. His project to install benches in Wayland Park is still a go. However, he is uncertain of his timeframe. He will keep in touch with Kevin.
Tree Lighting – December 4, 2016
Ms. Tallon was not in attendance to provide any additional information. Time is 7:00 PM and any donations to the refreshment table are appreciated.
Christmas Tree Pick-Up
Scheduled for Saturday, January 7, 2017. Pick-up area is Perkiomen Crossing, Ivy Ridge and Clover Lane. Residents are to have their undecorated trees at curbside by 9:00 AM. Use of one Township truck and trailer is being requested. Parks Board will meet in the Township parking lot at 8:30 AM. Reminder flyer was requested to be included with the water/sewer billing for January.
Donated Tree for Wayland Park
Jon informed that the Weeping Cherry Tree, donated by Ms. Sharon Delporte, was planted in Wayland Park. Tree was wrapped to protect from animals.
Destroyed Trees – Speelhoffer Park
It was reported that five (5) of the twelve (12) newly planted trees in Speelhoffer Park were destroyed by deer. Remaining trees were wrapped to prevent animals from destroying.
Road crew and Parks Board personnel have noticed trees being taken down by beavers along Swamp Creek. Current count is around 15. Recommendation is to contact the Gaming Commission to see what can be done to remove the beaver from the area.
Hetricks Nursery – Yard Debris
Jon was approached by Hetricks Nursery if the Township would be interested in a contract for the disposal of yard debris from the residents of Upper Frederick. It was recommended that the information be presented to the Township Manager to put before the Board of Supervisors.
Swamp Creek Stomp – 5K/10K Run
Scheduled for April 1, 2017. Parks Board approved the use of “Second Wind” for the timing of the 5K/10K Run. Medals and trophies will be purchased through Bridgeport Trophy Company. Medals left over from last year – obtain new ribbons for 2017 and possibly combining some of the age groupings to lower the number of medals needed n the upper age groups (Steve will check left over medals). Other topics of discussion: using Pretzel City for E-blast, distributing of flyers at other events, and possibly doing a mailer (Kevin will inquire); Active.com for online registration; researching other means of advertising and starting advertising early January; looking to extend trail and trail clean-up; approaching vendors for possible raffle items and attending the run; keeping registration fees same as last year - $30 pre-registration – day of $35.
The next Parks Board meeting will be held on December 20, 2016 at 7:00 PM.
The December 8, 2016 Board of Supervisors Meeting will be attended by Kevin.
Kevin motioned and Ed seconded to adjourn the meeting at 7:45 pm. Motion was approved by all.
